- Sly and the Family Stone - Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)
This song was #1 in 1970 and ranked #402 on Rolling Stone magazine's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time". The title is an intentional mondegreen for "thank you for letting me be myself again."
- Wayne Newton - Danke Shoen
"Danke schön" is German for "thank you very much." The polite response is "bitte schön" or "bitte sehr".
Danke Shoen was first recorded in 1962 by Bert Kaempfert. However, it got popular a year later when Wayne Newton recorded it (this was news to me-- I always thought it was a woman singing!), then again in the 1986 movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off when Matthew Broderick lip synced it on a parade float.
