Thank You Gift Baskets

Sometimes thank you gift baskets or other personalized gifts are the only way to get your point across. While a thank you note is always appropriate, going that extra mile and sending a gift really makes an impression, in your personal life or in business.

One October, my husband and I hosted an out-of-town guest for a couple nights. A few days later, a Halloween cookie basket arrived addressed to our 2 young boys, full of colorful mummy and Frankenstein and witch cookies. The looks on the kids' faces were priceless.

Here are some more neat ideas:

  • Gift Baskets

These take some planning and a bit more money but they make a big splash. You can send cookies, wine, chocolates, just about anything. My favorite is cookies though-- even if the recipient isn't a huge cookie person, the basket in their office will make them popular :) Some places to get them:

  • Gift Certificates

These are convenient to buy (usually there's a kiosk in the grocery store), can be purchased in various amounts, and you can surely find a store your person will like. If you want to get them online, here are my favorites:

    • I don't know how they do it but Restaurant.com will sell you a $25 gift certificate for just $10. Click the box to the right to enter your zip code and see the restaurants they offer. This makes a great gift.

    • iTunes If you only have a few dollars to spend, let them pick out a few songs for their iPod with an iTunes gift certificate.

    • Movie tickets: Just make sure there is a movie theater of that type nearby

    • Amazon.com. What can you not get there?

    • American Express: Seems nice because it's like free money but beware of activation charges

  • Personalized Gifts

If you know your recipient well, get them a little something they enjoy. For ideas, see:

  • Flowers

Oldie but goody. Potted plants are especially nice. Some of my favorite online shops include:

  • Balloon Bouquets

Big, bold, not too expensive, easy to get and always bring a smile to people's faces. Do you notice that even seeing a stranger carrying a huge bunch of balloons makes you smile?

Your local grocery store can probably make one up for you on-demand. Other places to get them:
